Power Station Concept
Electric drive systems and power supply for propulsion and side thrusters always imply the highest requirements for e.g. safety, availability, redundancy, noise and vibration levels, flexible installation possibilities, environmental demands, operating cost and maintenance. In the past decade Bakker Sliedrecht has gained a wide experience in the design, manufacture and supply of main, auxiliary and emergency propulsion and side thruster systems. Bakker Sliedrecht is active around the world in a broad range of industries, varying from dredging to offshore, fishing, merchant shipping, inland navigation, shore-based and government projects. Some good examples of successful turnkey projects are our close involvement in the design and engineering of the diesel-electric propulsion plant of the hydrographic survey vessels Snellius and Luymes for the Royal Netherlands Navy and the super diesel-electric propulsion system of the Celtic Explorer. The latter is a highly sophisticated low-noise multi-purpose research vessel built for the Irish Marine Institute. Both projects demonstrate the versatility of Bakker Sliedrecht as a knowledge supplier. More recent projects include the diesel-electric installations for two reeled rigid pipelaying construction vessels for the Scottish company Subsea 7 and the development of a diesel-electric propulsion concept for two innovative 80 m multi-purpose patrol vessels for the Swedish Coastguard. Most recently, Bakker Sliedrecht embarked on the design, production and supply of drive systems for the side thrusters of the innovative heavy-lift vessels for Jumbo Shipping, with 800 ton mast cranes. These will be built at Damen Shipyards in Romania, and fitted with two bow thrusters of 1,500 kW and an azimuth thruster of 1,700 kW.
