Modular hybrid energy

Smart modular hybrid energy solutions

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set the goal for the entire maritime industry to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 40% by 2030. An enormous challenge to which the whole maritime industry will have to contribute. The biggest challenge at this moment is to make the existing fleet more sustainable. With an expected life span of 30 years, many vessels sailing today will still be operational in 2030. How can shipbuilders and operators make choices for tomorrow while only today's technology is available?

Bakker Sliedrecht has developed a modular hybrid energy solution called the Energy Storage Solution (ESS). Existing vessels can be made ready for the (temporary) use of sustainable energy carriers and generators with limited intervention.

Modular use of (new) sustainable technologies

The ESS is packaged in a standard 20-40ft container directly connected to the on board energy network. Available types of energy storage and generation can be flexibly connected to this container. Currently, these are mainly containers with batteries or LNG generators, but once the technologies have been developed, the ESS will also be ready for hydrogen and supercaps. In addition to safe distribution, the ESS also ensures the smart management of energy flows so that they are optimally utilized.

Sustainable fleet, sustainable future

Bakker Sliedrecht carried out the first concept study for various ships of a maritime customer in 2020. The smart deployment of one or more ESS solutions and associated energy storage containers will enable existing ships to save around 15% in fuel and reduce emissions by about 20%. The ESS can then be placed on the vessel and projects where it will have the most beneficial impact on the ship operator's environmental goals.

Live demonstrations of our newest solutions

Bakker Experience Center

Bakker Sliedrecht highly values the benefits of innovation. We are constantly developing technologies and applications to solve the challenges for tomorrow's fleet. We now have the opportunity to demonstrate a selection of our latest innovations in our new Bakker Experience Center.

We continuously update the Bakker Experience Center with new solutions. We will clarify, demonstrate and let you experience every solution in person. We currently offer three separate Experiences, namely Remote Service with Augmented Reality glasses, Common Diesel Generator protection system and the Energy Storage Solution. The Experiences will be held in a small group so that the technology, its application, and your unique challenges are addressed during the visit.
