Safety and availability are essential for vessels at sea. Downtime must be prevented at all times due to the high costs involved. However, a vessel may suddenly require maintenance due to a malfunction or defective component. Remote Service through Augmented Reality glasses allows service technicians anywhere in the world to watch live with the glasses wearer on board. This allows problems to be solved faster - saving time and costs.

Live images on board

The crew is enabled to be in contact with a specialist during maintenance or a repair. Thanks to the additional visual aids and the audio connection, the crew and the system experts can accurately assess the situation. This allows the malfunction to be resolved immediately or enables the technicians to know exactly which parts they need on site.

All kinds of digital information can be projected or added on the glasses. This varies from drawings and virtual arrows to a 3D impression of the engine room or the control cabinet. Computer screens on the glasses can also be shared. It is a kind of webcam on the spot, where both people see the same thing.

Successful pilot gas tanker Coral Favia - Anthony Veder

Bakker Sliedrecht and Anthony Veder have carried out a successful pilot project with AR technology on gas tanker Coral Favia. During the pilot, functionalities were tested via a dial-up connection and common malfunctions were simulated. On board, an officer wore the AR glasses, guiding specialists from Bakker Sliedrecht virtually through the vessel. The pilot resulted in a saving compared to the usual service manner.
