Bakker Sliedrecht has delivered the electrical systems of the last two Module Carrier (MC-class) vessels, the BigRoll Barentz and BigRoll Bering, which will be operated by heavy marine transportation provider BigRoll Shipping. In total, electrical installations were delivered to four module carrier vessels. The 1A Ice Class vessels are specifically designed for the marine transportation of major modules and equipment for large energy projects, both on and offshore, to some of the most remote and inaccessible areas on the planet. In the early design phase, Bakker Sliedrecht participated in the design of the innovative propulsion configuration. This configuration ensures safe, reliable, and fast transit with particular focus on low fuel consumption, resulting in lower operational costs.

An FMEA study lead by Bakker Sliedrecht has proven the reliability of the design and showcased the skills and expertise of Bakker Sliedrecht’s engineering team.

Successful integration of all electrical systems

As an electrical system integrator, Bakker Sliedrecht has been fully responsible for the successful integration of all electrical systems of the MC-class vessels, which are DP 2 prepared.

Johan van Hal, Project Manager at Bakker Sliedrecht: “Despite the geographical distance between The Netherlands and China, Bakker Sliedrecht enjoyed the good collaboration with COSCO Dalian Shipyard thanks to great and efficient communication.”

Aart Schreuder, Project Manager at Bigroll Shipping: “We are satisfied about the collaboration with Bakker Sliedrecht. The level of knowledge and commitment that they showcased throughout the project is one of the key elements that made this project successful.

Delivered scope of work

For each vessel, Bakker Sliedrecht has been responsible for the engineering, assembly, installation, and commissioning of all electrical systems. A few highlights of the scope per delivered MC vessel are:
