Jan de Nul Group - 10 generators for 3 new trailing suction hopper dredgers

Bakker Sliedrecht has received the order from Jan de Nul Group to deliver ten IP 44 class Cummins generators. The generators will generate all electric power on board three new trailing suction hopper dredgers that are currently being built in China.

Complying with IP 44 with brand new water droplet entrapment filters

Jan De Nul Group requires the new generators to comply with IP 44 class, protection against splashing water. Traditionally, air-water coolers are used to comply with IP 44. This solution requires additional facilities, such as cool-water pipes that affect the entire vessel. Bakker Sliedrecht is complying with IP 44 in a brand new way: water droplet entrapment filters. These state-of-the-art filters prevent splashing water from entering a generator. The water droplet entrapment filters have lower costs than air-water coolers and do not require additional facilities.

Extensive testing of high quality generators

All generators will undergo an individual heat run, simulating their operational conditions. Jan De Nul Group will be present during this part of the factory acceptance test. These extensive tests guarantee that the critical equipment of the dredgers will be delivered with high quality. 

Delivery in 2017 and 2018

Bakker Sliedrecht will commission all generators on board the trailing suction hopper dredgers in China. The vessels will be delivered to Jan De Nul Group in 2017 and 2018.
